It's the company's native WhatsApp Business AI, handling FAQ responses, product recommendations, and appointment bookings without any extra software.

For some businesses, that covers everything they need. For others, it shows its limits fast. The difference comes down to your support volume, the tools your team uses, and whether your customers reach you outside WhatsApp.

## What does Meta's WhatsApp Business AI actually do?

Meta Business Agent is **a customer-facing AI built directly into WhatsApp Business, Instagram DMs, and Facebook Messenger**. According to[ <u>Meta's announcement</u>](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/06/03/meta-business-agent-is-zuckerberg-latest-effort-to-diversify-from-ads.html), it can answer customer questions, recommend products, book appointments, qualify sales leads, and route queries to a human agent when needed.

The product was tested in India and Mexico for nearly two years before this global launch. More than one million businesses were already using earlier test versions before the rollout.

Paid tiers are coming in the months ahead: smaller businesses will be charged through WhatsApp Business Premium subscriptions, while larger enterprises pay based on token usage, similar to how OpenAI and other AI providers charge for API usage. 

Meta is also building out **a Business Agent Platform for enterprise customers that lets them connect third-party data sources from Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee**. That platform is still in limited rollout. What's widely available today is the core agent, not the full integration stack.

## What Meta Business Agent does well

There's nothing to install. If you're running WhatsApp Business, the agent appears in your existing account. You don't need a WhatsApp Business API connection, a separate platform, or a technical team to get started.

**The integration gap is the most significant limitation for growing businesses.** If your team uses Shopify for orders, Salesforce for contacts, or HubSpot for your sales pipeline, Meta Business Agent isn’t able to read or write to those systems by default. The Business Agent Platform for enterprises is building toward this, but it isn't broadly available today.
