How to use Telegram for Business

TL; DR: Quick Summary

  • Telegram Business is a set of account features, and bots run on the separate Bot API that SleekFlow connects to.
  • A Telegram Group holds 200,000 members and a Channel has no subscriber limit, according to Telegram's FAQ.
  • Business features are free for Premium subscribers, and Telegram says connected bots also work without Premium.
  • The Help Center lists Telegram as a supported channel, and a bot connects through its token.
  • To manage Telegram with a team, create a bot in BotFather and connect its token to SleekFlow.

You search for how to use Telegram for business and get three answers. Turn on Business features, build a bot, or connect Telegram to a shared inbox.

They do different jobs. A Business feature, a bot and a shared inbox each solve a different problem.

The main catch is Premium. Telegram says all Business features are free for Premium subscribers, and that connected bots also work without Premium.

In this guide, you'll see what each option includes, what Telegram says it costs, how to set up bots, Groups and Channels, and what SleekFlow documents for Telegram.

Can Telegram be used for business?

Yes. Brands use Telegram for sales, marketing and support through one-to-one chats, Groups, Channels and bots. There are three ways to set it up: Telegram Business features on one account, a bot built on the Bot API, or Telegram connected to a business messaging platform. Each one has its own cost and its own best use.

What is Telegram Business, and does it need Premium?

Telegram Business is a set of account features that includes opening hours, location, quick replies, automated messages, chat tags, chat links, a custom start page and chatbot support. Telegram's Business documentation says all of them are free for Premium subscribers, and that connected bots are also available to non-Premium users.

The announcement of 31 Mar 2024 said the same, with the words "for the moment". The Bot API changelog adds that since 8 May 2026 Business Bots can manage user accounts without a Premium subscription.

How is the Bot API different from Telegram Business?

The Bot API is Telegram's developer interface for building bots. You create a bot by messaging @BotFather, which gives you a token. Business features belong to an account, and a bot can be connected to that account to answer its one-to-one chats once Secretary Mode is turned on for the bot in @BotFather.

Telegram says connecting a business bot does not require Premium. Its Bot Developer Terms add duties for Business bots, such as stating what user data you keep, so read section 5.4 before you build one.

If a vendor says Telegram Business API, ask which of the two they mean.

Is Telegram good for business? Benefits and limits

Telegram is good for business when you need large broadcast audiences, big file sharing and a way for people to find you by username. It's weaker for team support, because everyone replies as the same account. Telegram's FAQ gives a 2 GB limit per file (4 GB with Premium).

  • Multiple devices. Telegram's FAQ says your messages sync across any number of your phones, tablets or computers, so a small team can follow the same conversation from their own devices.

  • Username search. People can find you by username and message you even if they don't know your number.

How do you get a verified badge on Telegram?

Telegram generally verifies channels, bots and public groups, not personal accounts. Telegram's verification page asks for notable verified accounts on at least two of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, VK or Snapchat. Each one must link to your Telegram entity in its bio, and you need at least two links to press articles that mention you or your organization.

An undisputed Wikipedia page that links to your Telegram entity can stand in for one missing social account or press link, and an official website link may count as one. To apply, open @VerifyBot and submit your channel, bot or group.

How do Telegram bots, Groups and Channels help with marketing and support?

Bots handle repeat work such as FAQs, feedback and handovers. Groups give customers a shared space with a limit of 200,000 members, and Channels let you broadcast to unlimited subscribers. Use bots for automation, Groups for community and support, and Channels for announcements.

How do you build a Telegram bot?

Building a Telegram bot takes 6 steps: create it in @BotFather, copy the token, write the code on the Bot API, test it, host it, and share the link. The token is the key to the bot, so treat it like a password and never post it publicly.

  1. Open Telegram, search for @BotFather and tap Start.

  2. Send , choose a name, and choose a username that ends in "bot".

  3. Copy the token BotFather gives you.

  4. Write the bot's code against the Bot API.

  5. Test the bot with a small group, then host it somewhere it can run all the time.

  6. Share the bot link on your website and in your marketing.

How do Groups and Channels work for a brand?

Groups and Channels do different jobs. A Group is a shared chat with a 200,000-member limit, which suits community and support. A Channel broadcasts to an unlimited number of subscribers, which suits announcements and news.

How do you run Telegram in SleekFlow?

SleekFlow connects Telegram through a bot you create in BotFather, so your team can send and receive Telegram messages in the same inbox as your other channels. SleekFlow's Help Center lists several bots per account, link and QR sharing, and a set of message types. Customers must start the conversation.

What can you do with Telegram in SleekFlow?

SleekFlow's Help Center says one account can connect several Telegram bots and handle them in one inbox. You can share a link or QR code so customers can start a chat, and send text, documents, images, videos, voice notes, product messages and payment links.

Payment links need the payment feature turned on. The Help Center also lists setting up a Telegram channel as a broadcast channel for marketing or announcements, and a Reply by keyword flow can answer incoming messages that match keywords you choose.

What are the limits of Telegram in SleekFlow?

Plan around three limits on the Telegram channel in SleekFlow. Customers must start every conversation, some formats aren't supported, and sent messages can't be edited or recalled. Once a chat has started, there's no reply time limit while the customer keeps engaging with the bot.

  • Unsupported formats. Text formatting, polls, location messages, menu buttons and commands.

  • Telegram's policies apply. The Help Center says that once a chat starts, businesses engage within Telegram's messaging policies.

How do you connect Telegram to SleekFlow?

Create a bot in @BotFather, then connect it in SleekFlow. An Admin user opens Channels, selects Telegram, clicks Connect, enters an internal channel name and pastes the bot token. SleekFlow then generates a link and QR code that customers use to start a chat.

The Help Center guide has the full steps to connect Telegram to SleekFlow.

Which Telegram setup should you start with?

Start with the setup that matches who answers your chats. One person can use Telegram Business features, a developer can build a bot, and a team can connect a bot to a shared inbox. To bring Telegram into your inbox, see how the SleekFlow Telegram channel works.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Telegram Business?

Telegram Business is a set of account features that includes opening hours, location, quick replies, greeting and away messages, chat links and chatbot support. Telegram's documentation says they're free for Premium subscribers. A Business account is a regular Telegram account with those tools turned on, not a separate app.

Can Telegram be used for business?

Yes. Businesses use Telegram for customer support, updates, promotions and orders through one-to-one chats, Groups, Channels and bots. Which setup fits depends on team size and whether you need automation. One person can use account features, a developer can build a bot, and a team can connect a bot to a shared inbox like SleekFlow.

How do I set up Telegram for business?

Start with a Telegram account. For one person, turn on Telegram Business features, which Telegram says are free for Premium subscribers. For automation or a team, create a bot in @BotFather and connect it to a platform like SleekFlow. Add a Channel if you want to broadcast updates to a large audience.

Is Telegram Business free?

Partly. Telegram says all Business features are free for Premium subscribers, which is a paid subscription, and that connected bots are also available to non-Premium users. SleekFlow's Help Center says it adds no messaging fees on Telegram, though your plan has its own price. Check current Premium prices and terms in your Telegram account before you decide.

Can a business message customers first on Telegram?

Not through SleekFlow. SleekFlow's Help Center says customers must message first, by scanning your QR code or searching for the bot, and that businesses can't send messages proactively. Once a customer has started the chat, there's no time limit on replies while they keep engaging with the bot.
